BREWING GUIDE

THE
AEROPRESS

Clean, smooth, and endlessly adaptable. The AeroPress is the Swiss Army knife of coffee brewing.

By Chill Your Beans 6 min read All Levels

Invented in 2005 by Alan Adler (the same engineer who created the Aerobie flying ring), the AeroPress has become a cult favourite among coffee enthusiasts. Its unique combination of immersion and pressure brewing creates a remarkably clean cup with incredible versatility.

What makes the AeroPress special is its adaptability. Standard method, inverted method, different grind sizes, varying water temperatures — the possibilities are endless. There's even a World AeroPress Championship where competitors push the boundaries of what's possible.

CHAPTER ONE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

1

AEROPRESS

The chamber, plunger, filter cap, and stirrer. Consider the AeroPress Go for travel.

2

PAPER FILTERS

Standard AeroPress filters, or try metal filters for more body and oils.

3

GRINDER

Medium-fine grind for standard method. Experiment with finer for stronger coffee.

4

SCALE & TIMER

Precision matters with AeroPress. A scale helps dial in your perfect recipe.

CHAPTER TWO

  • • Best for beginners
B

INVERTED METHOD

Flipped upside down for full immersion. More control, more experimentation.

PRO TIPS

TEMPERATURE

Unlike other methods, AeroPress works great with cooler water (80-85°C). This reduces bitterness while keeping sweetness.

DILUTION

AeroPress makes concentrate. Add hot water after brewing (like an Americano) for a larger, milder cup.

EXPERIMENT

There's no wrong way. Try different grind sizes, temperatures, and steep times to find your perfect cup.
