THE
AEROPRESS
Clean, smooth, and endlessly adaptable. The AeroPress is the Swiss Army knife of coffee brewing.
Invented in 2005 by Alan Adler (the same engineer who created the Aerobie flying ring), the AeroPress has become a cult favourite among coffee enthusiasts. Its unique combination of immersion and pressure brewing creates a remarkably clean cup with incredible versatility.
What makes the AeroPress special is its adaptability. Standard method, inverted method, different grind sizes, varying water temperatures — the possibilities are endless. There's even a World AeroPress Championship where competitors push the boundaries of what's possible.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
AEROPRESS
The chamber, plunger, filter cap, and stirrer. Consider the AeroPress Go for travel.
PAPER FILTERS
Standard AeroPress filters, or try metal filters for more body and oils.
GRINDER
Medium-fine grind for standard method. Experiment with finer for stronger coffee.
SCALE & TIMER
Precision matters with AeroPress. A scale helps dial in your perfect recipe.
TWO METHODS
STANDARD METHOD
The original method as intended by the inventor. Quick, clean, and foolproof.
- • Chamber sits on cup
- • Add coffee, then water
- • Stir and press
- • Best for beginners
INVERTED METHOD
Flipped upside down for full immersion. More control, more experimentation.
- • Plunger on bottom
- • Full immersion steep
- • Flip and press
- • Preferred by competitors
STANDARD RECIPE
FOR 1 CUP (200ml)
PREP FILTER
Insert paper filter in cap, rinse with hot water to remove paper taste and preheat.
ADD COFFEE
Place chamber on cup, add 15g coffee. Shake to level the bed.
POUR & STIR
Pour 200g water at 85°C. Stir vigorously for 10 seconds. Insert plunger slightly to create seal.
STEEP & PRESS
Wait 1:30, then press slowly for 30 seconds. Stop when you hear the hiss.
PRO TIPS
TEMPERATURE
Unlike other methods, AeroPress works great with cooler water (80-85°C). This reduces bitterness while keeping sweetness.
DILUTION
AeroPress makes concentrate. Add hot water after brewing (like an Americano) for a larger, milder cup.
EXPERIMENT
There's no wrong way. Try different grind sizes, temperatures, and steep times to find your perfect cup.
PERFECT FOR
ADVENTURE
Light-bodied, fruity coffees shine in the AeroPress. Try our single-origin Ethiopian or Kenyan beans.
