BREWING GUIDE

COLD
BREW

Ultra-smooth, naturally sweet, and perfect for hot days. Master the art of cold extraction.

By Chill Your Beans 4 min read Easy

Cold brew isn't just iced coffee. It's an entirely different extraction method that produces a concentrate with up to 67% less acidity than hot-brewed coffee. The result? A smooth, naturally sweet beverage that's gentle on your stomach and big on flavour.

The magic of cold brew lies in patience. Without heat to speed extraction, you rely on time — 12 to 24 hours of slow, gentle steeping that extracts sugars and caffeine while leaving behind much of the bitterness and acidity.

CHAPTER ONE

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

1

CONTAINER

A large jar, pitcher, or dedicated cold brew maker. Needs to hold at least 1 litre.

2

FILTER

Cheesecloth, nut milk bag, or fine mesh sieve. Paper filters work for extra clarity.

3

GRINDER

Set to extra coarse — coarser than French press. Think breadcrumbs or raw sugar.

4

TIME & SPACE

12-24 hours and room in your fridge (or a cool dark counter).

"COLD BREW EXTRACTS PATIENCE INTO EVERY SIP. THE LONGER YOU WAIT, THE SWEETER THE REWARD."

CHAPTER THREE

STEP BY STEP

1

GRIND COARSE

Grind 100g of coffee to an extra coarse setting. The grounds should look like raw sugar or coarse breadcrumbs.

2

COMBINE & STIR

Add grounds to your container, pour in 800g of cold or room temperature water. Stir well to ensure all grounds are saturated.

3

STEEP

Cover and place in fridge for 18 hours. Counter-top steeping (room temp) takes 12-14 hours and produces a brighter result.

4

FILTER

Strain through a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth or a paper filter. Don't squeeze — let gravity do the work.

5

DILUTE & SERVE

Mix 1:1 with water or milk over ice. Adjust ratio to taste. Concentrate keeps 2 weeks refrigerated.

Pro tip: Try cold brew with oat milk and a splash of vanilla syrup for a café-style treat. Or use it as a base for coffee cocktails!
